In real life, I don’t think changes in sex ruin everything for all couples, but I wanted to take a look at what might happen when things change for reasons that both members of the couple don’t even understand. And even within a marriage or relationship, there are always vicissitudes. In The Uncoupling, I'm dealing with reality as I might usually go about portraying it in a novel, as well as a sort of heightened reality I don't think that everyone’s mojo would necessarily be off-kilter if such a spell were to land on a town or a school. I know that couples can have a variety of kinds of lives together. We think we do, but we never get the full story because we aren’t part of the couple.
